It is recommanded you have it for your scanner better feautures but here in connecticut we use 3600 baud for CSP Networks so no big deal if you dont have a fancy radio just a digital scanner for 3600 baud but be aware more towns in connecticut are going to be rebanding and some to higher baud this howcome will have to get a newer scanner to listen to if you dont have 9600 baud. All of these changes could take effect in ct, in the next few months to a couple of years, not all towns will be doing this though. happy hunting, and welcome to rr. hope this helps.
