I want to listen to a non encrypted P25 TDMA Phase 2 Police Frequency on my 996p2.

Can anyone confirm they have successfully been able to do so without simulcast distortion before I purchase the upgrade?

You don’t need any upgrade to listen to any phase of P25. It’s built in to the scanner, part of the 996P2

The DMR upgrade is for DMR - nothing to do with P25 Phase 2.

No one can guarantee you won’t get simulcast distortion. This is heavily dependent on too many variables. Since it doesn’t cost anything - program that system into your scanner and give it a try.

You use Connecticut’s CLMRN (Ct. Land Mobile Radio Network) as your example shown in the attachment. If monitoring this system is your intent, you don’t need the DMR option (with Uniden capable scanners), it’s not required. I’m from Ct. and listen to CLMRN on a SDS100 and SDS200 without the DMR option. I don’t think there are any public safety agencies in the state that use DMR, or if so, they are very few. I do see DMR systems within some town systems for their schools and public works.

The DMR upgrade won't fix simulcast trouble. The only real solution for that is an SDS, or a Unication, if you're willing to forego actual scanning and just monitor a single system.

I would love to get an SDS but there is talk and articles about them encrypting it. I am gonna do it via computer method in case that happens. I have plenty of uniden scanners right now that I love and that can do phase 1 but no luck with 2 and ugh simulcast distortion. I am really just chasing that phase 2.

It sounds like you are under the impression your computer will be able to receive encrypted signals... on the surface, that is not possible unless the encrypted agency will be providing live streaming of their audio unencrypted. Or do you have something else in mind?
