996p2 tone out question

I have 6 department stored in my tone-outs... each use the same frequency and each has 2 tones.

When scanning and I want to switch to toneouts, I hit function>SQ and the toneouts appear. They appear to scan between the 6 frequencies.

If I just want to monitor 1 of the 6... is it simply pressing "hold" on the one I want to monitor and the rest would be locked out?

I am unclear after reading the manual as it also says keys can be added to tones.

It will actually hit on any tone-out where all settings are the same except for the tones themselves. If you want to isolate to just one of the tone-outs, change one of the other settings so that all 6 no longer match. You can usually safely set AGC to a different value (IIRC), for example.
