Can anyone recommend any type of free programming software for the 996T. I have one that I want to program for a friend and would like to use the software but don't intend to keep the radio or program another again. Thanks...

In that case, you should download the free UASD software from the Uniden site. Go to the site , http://www.uniden.com/my/Index.cfm?accessdenied=/my/downloads.cfm Register, and download the software. You have to register to get the key so the software will work. It's all free, though.

Depending on where you are, there might be some people here who can provide you with some files to load.

It's in what I think is a weird place in the program. Start up the program, click on "Write to Scanner". Click on "Set Up". The first choice should be "Registration". Enter the information there.

Took me 40 minutes to find it the first time.

Okay, now I'm going to pull my hair out. I don't understand how this scanner works? All I want to do it program Fire, Police, HP, and SO all on seperate banks so that one can choose which agency to listen to and not the whole system or all 4 agencies at once. Can anyone help? I am totally lost. Thanks...

Peter,
Just create a separate 'system' for each one (agency, like HP, or city, or any other combination). Then, assign each one a quick key so that you can turn any combination of systems (agencies) on or off. You've got 100 quick keys to use however you want. The quick keys take the place of the old bank system.

If you're trying to do the State DPS/Tulsa system, put the sites you want, or all of them, in the system, Then, set up your talkgroups to only be the OHP. Save the system, assigning it whatever quick key you want.

If you want to also do the same for Tulsa, for example, which is on the same system, then, after you've saved the first one, edit it to take out the highway patrol ID's, and then enter the Tulsa ID's you want. Once you're done editing, & assigned it a different quick key, then do a "save as" instead of "save". & give it a different name.

Repeat for any other agency on that same system, that you want to be able to scan separate from Tulsa & OHP.

For agencies using conventional frequencies, you can set up a separate system file for each agency, city, county, or any combination. Use the groups within the system to break out the departments.

If you'll give a little more detail of how you want to break them out, I might be able to throw you a file together a little later.
