I posted on the yahoo groups also with no real answers that helped anyway, so I'll post here and see if anyone can help. Also I do NOT have the control channel search only option turned on and that was the only suggestion on the yahoo group..

I have since went back to the 2.xxxx firmware which I know worked fine before but it made no difference for my problem.

When I am doing a custom search, EXAMPLE-- 150-174MHZ the scanner won't
ever break squelch. If I stop the search manually I can get 2 weather
channels at full signal strength.. Even if I open the squelch manually
it will not stop or unmute on any frequency. Seems this problem started
after the latest firmware update..

Scanner works perfect while scanning. All bands work fine and the
trunked systems work like they're supposed to also..

Any ideas what happened to my search functions? I'm hopeing I have
something set wrong but I sure don't know what..

Any and all info or ideas greatly appreciated!!

Check to see if a screen is turned on.

MENU --> Srch/CloCall Opt --> Broadcast Screen

(For example, turning on the NOAA WX screen will keep the scanner from stopping on a weather frequency, even if a signal is strong and present.)

Fixed Fixed Fixed

Sure enough, pager and band 1,2,and 3 were turned on.. Works perfect on the custom search bands again. Don't know how that setting got changed but I'm sure I did it as I'm the only one who uses this scanner...

Anyway it's all fixed and works perfectly again.. Live and learn!!

Thank you very much!!

Screen? Oh, you mean screen!

.. Live and learn!!

Read and learn is more appropriate, in my case. I was new at scanning when I got my radio, and I interpreted "screen", to mean a "visual image on the front of the radio", and never really "got it". NOW, I see that it means to "prevent" something. Duh! I'd better go back and check that.
