Hello all,
I have been searching to find the reason that my 996T with the 3.02 firmware insists upon hanging up when uploading to it sometimes. I primarily use Proscan or FreeScan with ARC996PRO as another program. It has happened with all of these programs and I also have THREE different cables from Uniden to use. 1 is the RS232 plug while the other 2 have USB. I bought the cables because I was trying to see if it was the cables causing the problem. It appears they are not unless all 3 are bad and it does not appear to be the programs either. Oh, I normally use a laptop running XP Pro with Service pack 3. But have also tried using a new Vista machine and another pc with XP. All have at least 1gb of RAM. I have talked to Uniden and even sent the scanner to them, which was returned with no problem found, about a year ago. The setup I normally had in the scanner had somehow gotten reinstalled though while it was gone! Is there another reset known only to UPMan? LOL
The current hangup occurred when I was updating VA STARS using Proscan 4.7. The program got to around 80% and hung aka stopped uploading. I let it sit for hours without any change. So I did what I hate to do and that is do the old reset the holding down 2, 9 and hold, while powering on which sometimes means I have to reinstall the firmware updates. This time the screen only has the welcome msg and goes no further. I have seen it allow me to update the firmware the next day several times after leaving it powered off for 24hrs. The firmware upgrade program from Uniden keeps giving me the same msg of "not locating any scanner" and the programs give the same msg more or less. I have checked and rechecked many times this past week and nothing appears to be amiss on my side of the program. I have browsed and searched for a different approach with no results that I didn't already know. I cannot for the life of me find the instructions given by UPMan long ago on the subject, which I had printed out. So I guess there could be something I didn't remember to do.
I guess it could be a scanner problem such as the front data plug? (yes, I have verified the port setup 20 times). LOL... Since I was always able to do the job before with the instructions beside me using the instructions verbatim, I have felt I would eventually get there. But as of today and after another fruitless search, I am asking the question no one likes which is "what do you do and how do you do it if you have a situation like mine and need to reinstall the firmware from 1.# to 3.02", when you have only the normal power on screen? Should I send it to Uniden again? Advice, some nice good advice is needed?! LOL
Thanks much!
Ben
