996T Trunking help on MARCS

I am setting up Ohio MARCS on my 996. I do not want to multi-site trunk. Is there a way to set this scanner up to scan all MARCS control channel frequencies without having to do it by hand?

UASD or ARC will not seem to let me do it this way?

In ARC, in the sites area, de-select the Enable GPS based scanning, and have only 1 site. Be sure that site has all of the control channels for all the sites.

In USAD, in the sites area Set the GPS Enable to off. Again, set it up for one site only that has all the control channels.

You are pretty much fooling the system into thinking you have one real big site.

I recently traveled to Minnesota and used the site feature on their large system there and thought the site enabling was a pretty nice feature.

If you program it per ofd's suggestion, note that the scanner will stop on the first control channel it can detect and will not check any of the other programmed control channels for activity. To have it check all site control channels, you must program each set of control channels for a site into a seperate site in the scanner.

Ohio MARCS is also preprogrammed in system #48.

Upman, that is the exact problem we are running into. We are somehow scanning sites not the entire system?

Dave, we did download it, but now are trying to set it up so the scanner pick up the closest site. As of now, it is scanning every site in there is.

Easiest way is to go into the system and edit your closest site(s) to be on a different SQK (for example, change them from 48 to 2...then hit . 48 to disable the sites still on 48 and hit "2" to toggle the closest site(s) on and off).

The site names in the scanner should closely resemble the site names in RRDB.

You'll need to lockout temporary (or permanent by pressing L/O 2X) the towers you are not interested in or assign them different quick keys. You can also do this with the UASD software.

You may want to double check the programming of each site, to be sure the GPS feature is enabled. Also, double check the lattitude, longitude and range to be sure they are programmed correctly.

I'm sure you've pressed the GPS button, of course and see the "GPS" in the upper right hand corner.

One thing I've noticed is that you have to give the scanner several minutes to lock-in/out sites.

Upman, obviously, is correct if you program all the control channels in one site you'll only hear one site, even though more than one site may be "listenable" in your area.

My suggestion is to "go with the flow" and use the scanner as it was designed to do - if there are multiple sites, then program the multiple sites. If worst comes to worst and the radio scans inactive sites and you don't want it to but can't seem to stop it via GPS, you can manually lockout sites, or do it with ARC or USAD.

Or search on here for gpsfeed+ and download this little tool. Then you can make your pc send the GPS strings to your scanner for your locale. This will turn off the distant sites
