How many more features would I get by upgrading to a 996T from a 785D? I am looking for advantages of the 996T over my 785D.
Thanks…
The first is also the biggest:
The 996 will be supported for
rebanding via a firmware flash download. The 785 will not be, so it will not longer trunk track Motorola systems that have been affected by this. EDACS & LTR will still work in the 785, after the reassigned frequencies are entered.
The 996 will also trunk track the fully digital P25 standard systems (9600 baud control channels). The 785 will not, even with the digital card. It, like the 250D, will decode the mixed mode 3600 baud systems, but not the P25 standard systems.
The 996 also will trunk track systems using 700Mhz frequencies. These will become more prevalent. Maybe not in your area yet (no location specified), but they are showing up more, especially in the larger statewide systems.
The 785 has 1000 channels, but only ten banks. So, your maximum number of trunked systems is 10. The 996 uses dynamic memory, not banks. You can have up to 500 systems, using up tothe capacity of 6000 channels. Each trunk system can have up to 250 talkgroups entered withtext tags.
The 996 will also do multisite trunking, fire tone out, and can use a GPS to turn systems on and off as you come into and go out of range. You can see Uniden's details, and download the manual for the full specs,
here. There are multiple threads about the 996, and comparisons vs other scanner models.
