Quick question what does the arrow mean on the front screen of the 996t the arrow is up or down i don't know what that means or does..

It indicates the scanning direction.

The original antenna that came with the scanner out of the box isn't very good the plastic bnc connector breaks very easliy that said maybe uniden should look into switching to metal bnc rather then plastic... I replaced the original with a watson wsm-1900 25mhz-1900mhz mobile antenna mag mount that i use indoors works very well i might say i'm glad i bought it...

I found the Uniden antenna gained 1-2 bar average over a silver extendable optoelectronics antenna I had (same length).
But i agree the plastic tip is very cheap and i have to fumble with it to get it on and off.
Saying that im sure most people will upgrade the antenna anyway on a mobile unit
