Does the 996XT have a feature that will automatically detects the signal from the strongest trunk site?

I live in a mountainous area with lots of trunk sites, and my 996XT is GPS enabled. Ordinarily, for scanning efficiency, I break this geography down by the different sites, but I'm thinking it would be good to leave the simulcasts programmed over a larger area.

But, I'm hoping my scanner will automatically detected the strongest signal from the sites available (and GPS enabled). Is this feature built into the 996XT, and if so, what is it called. I'd like to learn more about it.

Many thanks.

If you are talking about a simulcast system, determining which site has the strongest signal is of no consequence. Simulcast systems have multiple sites all of which are using the same frequencies.

The technology you mention exists for radio systems, is quite pricey and too big to fit in a scanner. That would be a comparator which is something used in a voting receiver system for conventional radio systems. There are multiple receiving sites for large areas. When a radio user keys up his radio all of these receiving sites "talk" to each other to determine which is receiving the strongest signal. Whichever one is receiving the strongest signal does the actual repeating of the transmission.

@ ofd8001. Thanks, so does this mean I should just toss out all the individual sites and just ensure that the simulcast covers all the geography in question? Should I even do that for remote locations, where I know there is only on repeater that is within range (due to mountains)?

Many thanks
