I recently purchased a used 996XT (from the RR Classifieds). I'm trying to figure out how to find the ESN requested by Uniden when I tried to register the radio with them. Additionally, I have an older 780XLT that I would like to reprogram. My computer doesn't 'see' the radio when hook it up to the computer. I'm running XP on the computer and ARC software for both radios... Thanks!

For the 780XLT, you need to press and hold the "E" until you see "rmt" on the screen. You also need to use a straight thru serial cable and ensure the baud speed is the same on the radio, computer, and software. I JUST went through this with a used one I bought last weekend.

I down loaded the USB driver again and was able to gain control of the 780... Still trying to find out how to get the ESN for the used 996XT I'm trying to register. Thanks for the help!

To get the ESN, press Menu, scroll to and "Settings" press Enter, scroll to "See Scanner Info", press Enter, scroll to "Firmware Version", press Enter. third line begins with "SN" ##############, Fourth line, SUM=###
