The one time I heard them testing this system - in the Harundale Mall - there was nothing different in frequency or talkgroup as the final result - as you would expect. I forget now which TG they were using (maybe admin). They had someone walking around various spots in the mall and when he got to a place they couldn't hear him anymore, they turned on the repeater and suddenly the signal was loud and clear. This may not be what you're asking for though because I don't know if that signal was repeated on a different freq before it got to the system and the normal talkgroup. Since Harundale was close enough to me, I remember searching all the input freqs too from 808 to 812 mHz and got nothing. Since the repeater/extender would be very low power I would imagine, this may not be surprising that I didn't hear anything.

[Edit] Just noticed Radio Shack has the PRO-96 on sale for $449.99. Thought I'd toss that in in case anyone is contemplating buying one. I sure wish that 2096 would come to market.

The vehicle repeaters are just another zone on the trunk system; Zone 2 is reserved for this purpose. There is some type of regrouping that can occur when the repeater is active, I believe there was a previous post when they were first being tested, you might want to search for it. (EDIT: I added the info below, as the info I mentioned is buried in a 13-page post)

EDIT: (thanks to MFN250, they were his posts)

ZONE 2 (MOBILE'S ONLY)
2A REPEAT B1
2B REPEAT B2
2C REPEAT C1
2D REPEAT C2
2E REPEAT E2
2F REPEAT E3
2G REPEAT F2
2H REPEAT F3
2I REPEAT H4
2J REPEAT H1
2K REPEAT I4
2L REPEAT I1
2M REPEAT K3
2N REPEAT K4
2O REPEAT L3
2P REPEAT L4

ZONE 3 (PORTABLE'S ONLY)
3A REPEAT 1
3B REPEAT 2
3C REPEAT 3
3D REPEAT 4
3E REPEAT 5
3F EMEC CALL 1
3G EMEC MED 4
3H EMEC MED 8
3I
3J
3K
3L
3M
3N
3O

OK HERE IS THE LOW DOWN WITH THE VRS (REPEATER SYSTEM)
YOU WILL BE ABLE TO HEAR THE REPEATER (WHEN THEY FINISH THE VRS SYSTEMS) ON THE ORIGNAL TALKGROUP...

SO LETS SAY THE CALL IS ON ECHO... THEY WILL GO ON LOCATION AND TELL ALL UNITS O/L TO SWITCH TO EITHER REPEAT E2 OR REPEAT E3 THEN THE MOBILES THE 1 UNIT THAT IS ACTIVATING THE VRS GOES TO THAT ALL OTHER MOBILE WILL STAY ON ECHO AND THE PORTABLES WILL GO TO EITHER REPEAT 2 OR REPEAT 3.

SO LETS SAY OPS ARE ON KILO FOR A 18 BOX AT MARLEY MALL.... E 18 GOES O/L AND STATES VRS NOW IN OPERATION... AT THAT TIME FIRE ALARM TELLS THEM GO TO 2N-REPEAT K4 SO THEY SWITCH E18 MOBILE TO REPEAT K4 AND ALL PORTABLES GOTO REPEAT 4 BUT ALL OTHER MOBILES STAY ON KILO. THE PORTABLES OPERATE ON CONVENTIONAL AND HIT THE VRS UNIT WHICH THEN TRUNKS IT TO THE MAIN TAC CHANNEL...

I HOPE THIS HELPS EVERYONE IF NOT PM ME AND I WILL TRY TO EXPLIAN IT A LITTLE BETTER.....

My guess is that they use the RINS frequencies or maybe the I-CALL/I-TAC frequencies. RINS: 868.5125, 866.8375, 867.2375, 867.4875, 866.8625, 867.7625. I-CALL/I-TAC: 866.0125, 866.5125, 867.0125, 867.5125, 868.0125. In either case, it's likely that they use a CTCSS/DCS other than the 156.7 Hz standard. Might even try the common/itinerant 800 MHz frequencies: 808.4875 and 853.4875. You never know.

Back in the summer of '29....

Oops...yeah, I have no idea where Harundale came from. I was thinking Marley Station Mall where the test was and then typed something else. I guess that kind of dates me too.

While I'm at it...let me ask a question. Who/what is EMS-4 (and probably EMS1)? I keep hearing EMS-4 place herself in the middle of calls and you can almost "hear" the guys roll their eyes when she does. She seems to be a roving something-or-other.

"Oldtimer" signing off...

He he he....

Are we talking about the accident on route 50 yesterday evening were the EMS officer in question didn't grasp the concept of the car into the jersey barrier?

She did sound rather dense about the information.

I believe the term "Peter Principle" comes to mind.

Ahhhh.....EMS, the last three letters in ProbEMS.

Yes, that was the incident that finally made me ask what her function is. "A passerby saw an officer writing a ticket and that's probably what this call was for," she said...followed immediately by the engine stating he was at the accident scene and you could hear it in his voice what he was really saying. But I hear her assigning herself to incidents all the time and wondered if she was somehow officially a roving EMS. Guess not.

Just to add, Howard County is getting ready to field test a few of these vehicle repeaters. And the rumor throught the grapevine is that we are in for another radio re-programming in the very near future.... wonder if that's related.. hummm....

And to add to the EMS officer thing:
We have more than a couple of people that "roam" that have to be on every call. A certain Chief 2A comes to mind... "I will have command of the BLS foot injury" Makes you wonder.... Maybe AACo and HoCo aren't that different

She/they is/are official. The EMS officers have the same roles as they would in Baltimore City and or County. But they are not dispatched unless the call warant's it. To put it in layman's terms, they are to supervise the EMS units and assist were they can.

And thats where I will stop.....

Um yes, I won't elaborate too much if Wadeless won't, but, let's just say, the system is still experiencing, shall we say, growing pains.

The EMS units are EMS officers (lieutenants) and there's one for each battalion. They don't seem to be restricted to their battalions though, which may be some of the AARGH factor the engine guys are showing :D

They're only actually dispatched to a call if it's a serious incident, like a rescue box or an MCI. That's why they're always adding themselves, they're not toned out most of the time.

isnt that the shopping center that now has the BJ's, the health center, the RATSHACK, and (dont know if this is still there, it was when i passed by a month ago) Ames? if not, then i apologize. anyway...

i dont think they are using the T/A frequency, i heard that its "low power" (but then again, thats prob all they need, right?)

i do wonder about the RINS/COG and ITAC channels, since nobody ever really uses them. (or as was said, with different PL's?)

oh, this is what makes this hobby fun. finding stuff and sharing. i guess we have to wait till a fire goes out near marley mall or something "big"

Nah....Jumpers was across Ritchie from there. Its was where the Kmart and what ever the supermarket is next to the Jumpers Cinema is. It was a small mall. But everyone from Old Mill used to hang-out there. Now its just a strip mall.

Where BJ's is used to be a Best's Catalog order store.

Hey wait a minute you old fart's. Remember Sidle's (sp?) at Crain and B&A? It fell victim to the Glen Burnie urban renewal (Big fire) of the late 70's.

BTW and back on subject. I heard 10-O up with Mutual Aid today along with someone on the 1-O Coordination channel testing.

That and sat on the deck and watched Trooper 8 land in the school field behind my house for a fly-out from a motorcycle accident.

Not a bad day today.

Is it just my imagination or have there been a whole slew of motorcycle accidents in the past couple of weeks? Seems every time I turn on the radio I hear some jurisdiction going to pick up the pieces of some cowboy on his bike. I was on Rt 100 today and saw the speck of a bike in my outside mirror way behind me. A few seconds later I was just about to change lanes and that speck went flying by me at well over 100mph. It was about a half-second from being yet another statistic. Heard one on Montgomery's fire channel a couple of weeks ago when a bike tangled with a tractor trailer down past River Road on 495. Same kind of situation. Engine arriving on the scene announced upon arrival - "One on the road" followed a few seconds later by "We have a DOA on the road." They've got to realize they don't stand a chance at those speeds no matter what they hit. Don't they? Sorry for being way off topic but wadeless got me thinking about that.

Hey Folks just for everyone's info they cannot use the RINS OR NPSPAC Channels as they are for Mutual Aid Response only & if even a Portable were to Transmit on them it would be broadcast on the Channels. So I know for a fact they aren't using them.
