I have a couple question about the clock

will the little battery trickle charge from the AA batteries if installed or will it only charge from the usb when the radio is on?

also, does the clock run from the main batteries and usb cable when availble or does the clock only run from that little battery

thank you

The RTC battery only charges from the AA's or USB power, and only when the scanner is on and running. Fully charged it should hold the clock setting for about a week if the radio is not turned on.

Yes.. You probably could say the RTC is running from the AA"s or USB power when the scanner is on and charging the RTC battery.
There is a minimum of like 50 hours to fully charge the RTC battery though. Shouldn't take much runtime to top it off once charged.

The RTC battery is not charging when there is no USB cable connected, just so you know. The radio has to be on with the USB cable hooked up.

That cannot be correct, Jay, as I went many months without a USB cable connected, and the RTC battery never died.

While the unit is powered on, the RTC battery charges.

Where you may be getting confused is that in order to give it the full initial charge of 50 hours, the USB cable is recommended since no batteries will last that duration.

If it helps any, here is what the owners manual (page 18) states:

"NOTE: Both of these scanners have a Real Time Clock (RTC) onboard powered by an internal
battery (not the AA’s with the 436). When you first get your scanner, leave the 536 plugged in
and connect the 436 to the USB cable (when off) to charge the internal battery (The 436 will ask
you to charge the AA batteries, select ‘No’ until you want to charge those). It takes about 50
hours to trickle the internal battery up to a full charge, which will last for over a week. If the
internal battery is depleted, you'll be prompted to enter the time upon power-up."

It takes about 50 hours to trickle the internal battery up to a full charge, which will last for over a week.

When it comes back from the repair, it appears that the RTC battery is charged.
