I just got my Pro-95 working again after not being able to use it for a while, and I started trying to add some new frequencies. I found a trunked system for the local military base's MPs, fire, maintenance people, etc. I put all the control channels in, made sure everything was correct (to the best of my knowledge, anyway), and added the talk groups. So far, the only activity I've seen on that system is an occasional burst of some kind of electronic static (not static like the frequency's out of range... static that I don't know enough about radio systems to have a clue what it is). When this happens, it usually shows that there's traffic on several different talk groups at pretty much the same time, but all I hear is either that static, or nothing at all. Does this sound like it's something that I've done wrong in programming the scanner? Or could it be encrypted, or out of range, or anything like that?

Also, when I'm scanning my city's public safety trunked system, it occasionally stops on a talk group that I've never been able to find any information for, and all I can hear is similar electronic static. The static goes on constantly for several minutes at a time, and I've never been able to lock that TG out (though I'm fairly sure this is due to my own stupidity and inability to work my scanner). It's really quite annoying, and since the static is constant, that ends up being just about the only thing the scanner picks up while it's going on. So my question is, what the heck could that be? Sorry, I know I haven't given much info about it, but does anybody know what that might be?

Thanks in advance for any help.

PRO-95 is analog only

It could be any of the things you've listed; a digital transmission, data from a control channel, incorrect programming, etc. Please tell us the system you are trying to monitor, and ideally a link to it here on RR, and then we'll know if the PRO-95 is able to monitor it.

Also, when I'm scanning my city's public safety trunked system, it occasionally stops on a talk group that I've never been able to find any information for, and all I can hear is similar electronic static. From your description it sounds like a digital transmission. Again, if you tell us what you're trying to monitor, we can make an educated guess as to what your problem is.

Pro-95

^That's the one from the first question...
Look under the MODE column. A = analog and the PRO-95 will pick that up. D = digital which the PRO-95 can not do .. well, it can receive the signal, but it sounds as you described, not "voice".

...and that's the one from the second question. The talk group in question is 04816. This one's really not a big deal, more of just a curiosity. Thanks for your help.
To lock out a TG, first make sure the bank is closed. If the TG is not programmed, it should not stop there. Otherwise, I'd program the TG and lock it out (with the bank closed).
