A lil history of TRS's in MS

The first TRS brought online was the city of Hattiesburg's Motorola Type II Smartnet, which now is part of the Forrest County TRS. The second to come online was the city of Jackson GE/Erriccson EDACS, followed shortly by the Rankin County Motorola, and the city of Vicksburg Digital Motorola (Which was specifically digital because scanners could not monitor it back then). Very shortly after this, Warren County also got a Digital Motorola (VSELP which is still unmonitorable). At approximately the same time as the two digital systems went online, the city of Madison built its Motorola Type I system, which is now a Type II. Soon thereafter, Lee County/City of Tupelo built a Motorola Type II, and consilidated them into one system now run by Lee County Communications. Washington County shortly followed suit. The most recent to jump on the trunking wagon (online) Simpson County (LTR Regular), Adams County (LTR Passport), several digital along the coast, including the ProVoice one. There are at least three more comming online in the next year or so including the city of Meridian, and Lowndes County.

Just a lil sidenote-- the city of Hattiesburg's was the reason I got into trunktracking, as when I attended the University of Southern Mississippi there, I had a BC350A and could listen to Forrest County SO, Petal PD/FD, AAA Ambulance, USM PD, and MHP on it, but found out that I could not monitor Hattiesburg. Shortly thereafter I also learned that Jackson had switched from thier UHF, to the 800, so I got a Trunker, only to learn that no scanner could trunk track EDACS at that time,.. it was very frustrating at first. (beep beep beep lol), but at least I could track Madison, and the Rankin County system, and Hinds County was still conventional. Then they produced the PRO-94 and I was one of the first in the metro Jackson area to grab it. At last I could track EDACS!!! . Then I got the news from friends in the HCSO that they were going to get a digital TRS,.. and at that time there were no digital scanners so that made me unhappy,.. but I didn't fret since I was moving to Asheville, NC, and could track every system there. Then I moved to Charleston, SC, and my scanners were very happy with all three of the TRS there.
