Maybe this isn't news here, but I was told from a WSP radio tech that they will be moving to P25 VHF in the near future. They have already converted numerous cars to P25 capable M/A COM radios from the older Mot Spectras. Sorry if this is not news, just sharing what I heard...

The future is uncertain, my guess is the radios are what is suggested per APCO recommendations and therefore they are just buying what is the most up to date equipment . They really need more mobile relays installed statewide. I heard one trooper refer to his Kenwood portable as a "fisher-price" radio.

there is also "talk" they will be going to IP which means that we cant listen to them. talk talk talk.

I say get monitoring times, they are normally good with keeping on top of the news.

Coming from a WSP tech, they're not switching over for a while, and are 'comfortable' where they are......

<- not the tech, have info from one.

IP as in internet protocol, the radios would use similar communication that computers use to talk on the wan(internet)

hmmm. I can't get my digital cell phone to work on portions of heavily traveled I-5 I don't think public safety wants to go that route just yet.
