Many years ago when I was a sea-going sparks, it was hard to get a word in edgeways on what was commonly called the "Trawler Band" around the UK and Europe. Often you had to 'top and tail', get on to the working frequency of the shore station and as soon as the current user signs off, call the shore station with your callsign and hopefully he hasn't gone back to 2182.... two receivers was always handy. There was often some juicy conversations going on via the telephone connections but my lips are sealed....

Ship to shore stuff was always interesting, sometimes sad. I think people forgot they were on the radio and said stuff they probably didn't want to share with the rest of the hemisphere.
