Hi
I have a question about a frequencies and is everyone have the same problem?? I have in my scanner 468.000 MedComm 1 Mobile in my scanner and then I have the Base into. But my problem is that 468.000 MedComm 1 Mobile is hissing and popping and statcks. The squalsh is up and it still does it. I have turned it down and still does it. Is there another Frequencies for MedComm 1 Mobile? Thanks!

Just some thoughts here....

Why would you want to listen to 468.000 which is the mobile (or input) frequency which is repeated on 463.000, the repeater output frequency which covers a wide area........at least that's the way it is in every place I've ever been.

Another problem, I have noticed that 468.000 is a "birdie" frequency for some scanners, meaning it will lock up that particular scanner, no matter what, when on that frequency.

What many are seeing across the U.S. is the paramedic or mobile side of the med channels being encrypted for HIPPA compliance out of concern for patient privacy.

That makes sense. I did not realize some areas were not using repeaters on this frequency. In the areas I visit, I have not seen this yet. And, yes...due to HIPPA laws some agencies around here (KY)are going to encryption for medical transports....

There is no such thing as HIPPA. But if your EMS is encrypting due to HIPAA concerns, they are wasting their money as HIPAA does not apply to medic to hospital radio communications.

HIPAA doesn't require it, but some agencies are interpreting what it DOES require very narrowly. It DOES require that steps be taken to safeguard patient information. Those safeguards could be procedural. For example, no patient names or other identifying information over the radio. Or, the safeguards could be provided for through various technologies, i.e. encryption. HIPAA itself provides a great deal of flexibility in how the end result is achieved.

Does the HIPAA Privacy Rule require hospitals and doctors' offices to be retrofitted, to provide private rooms, and soundproof walls to avoid any possibility that a conversation is overheard?

Regarding HIPAA, I'm not going to say where this happens, but one hospital I am aware of REQUIRES all incoming Ambulances to provide the name of the patient being transported and the last 4 numbers of their SSN to be included with the medical report transmitted. I once heard a detailed transmission for a friend of mine, who had known medical issues, as he was being transported to that particular hospital. That was a few years ago, and now, I notice many are encrypting their enroute patient reports or doing them over the phone. I am sure others around the country have heard similar procedures....
