Now that I have several weeks of working with the SDS200 I am curious about the AAcounty P16 system. I receive a lot of "silent hits" on the site. I am assuming these are encrypted messages. I see the TGID and the service type but no audio. It seems to be about 50% of all hits.

Thanks, Eric.

A lot of AA is encrypted especially law. look in RR database for an "E" in mode column.
Everything law in the P25 system is encrypted.

Depends on the tg, your receiving location, and user habits. What tgs specifically are presenting with the issue?

Ya I thought so. It's only the Law, Law-Tac and Law-Dispatch some do come thru but I know from experience that the site should be busier than it is. Also, I have a full signal strength bar so it isn't reception. I thought they were encrypting some traffic but wow, it's more than I anticipated. I remember the old Pro-96 never stopped. The amount of traffic it received was incredible. That was many years ago. Thanks, everyone.

Pretty much only Annapolis Police has some traffic unencrypted on the P16 system as do the state police. Fire remains in the clear.

The only "full time" users on the P16 are School Buses and the School Comms Center. It seems that are some stragglers for fire radios (Fire Academy, some field users, etc.) to switchover but never see Anne Arundel Police, Annapolis PD, or Sheriffs use the P16 system.

Most mutual aid agencies for Fire/Police (MSP, PG, Howard, and others) use the P25 system when responding mutual aid.

The only talkgroups patched over from P25 to P16 are Fire/Police talkgroups, all the other patches (Parks, DPW, Landfill, etc.) have been taken down.

Yea, my info is from experience a few weeks ago. More agencies may have fully transitioned to the P25 system since then.

My experience is different for the P16 system. The P16 system is the only system where I receive Police districts. P25 is all fire and EMS.
I will monitor today to verify this.

If you can be more precise: are you hearing the AACPD district dispatch talk groups in the clear on the P16 system as of today? In any event, don't get used to it as the P16 system is going bye-bye soon.

You will only hear the police talkgroups on the P16 system as they are encrypted on the P25 system. They are on the P25 system full time but is patched back to the P16 in the clear.

As @maus92 said, the P16 days are numbered. Like in weeks/maybe months.

Ok, after monitoring for a few hours, it does appear that 95% of the TGs are for the Annapolis PD. I do get the occasional North and Western districts under service-type dispatch. Mostly traffic stops. Thanks for all the info.

Months. Typically its a 6 month grace period on a cut over for outside agencies.
