Hi
I have a quick question. I am ordering one of this antenna when it comes back in stock. WBD-40 Discone Base Antenna I live in Easton,PA I was wondering if I am going to be able to hear South, Central Simulcast of the NJSP Now. I had to program the North and I can hear it fine. I was just curious. Thanks a lot.

It may depend on how high you get your antenna. While there is considerable simulcasting on NJSP, the system is still line of sight,

To answer youre quick question, you should be able to receive the N.J. state police just fine being that they have a intelli repeater in easton, and also the system is not line of sight, 800 mhz the signal goes right through walls and trees and houses! and being that they have a intelli repeater in easton you shouldnt even need a roof antenna, but i would use it anyways, it will give you better all over coverage! i can pick the system up in my basement with just the portable 396 xt and the rubber antenna it came with and im not even near any sites!

Maybe the Troop C simulcast zone but I doubt Troop A. If not because of sheer separation then because of co-channel users closer to you. A good 800MHz directional antenna may be your best bet (aside from finding a good audio feed online) but I wouldn't even put money on that, and it isn't a versatile solution.

Intellirepeaters don't carry the full simulcast, if you can receive a regular zone then you're much better off scanning that. Over the IR you'll only hear whatever talkgroups are being monitored by the small number of radios active on that IR.
Also in this context, line-of-sight is in reference to terrain obstructions such as mountains or the curvature of the Earth. Raising an antenna may get past some of those obstacles, or at least push it out further in the case of curvature.

Since they took Troop C out of the Franklin Site you will have very little luck getting the system. Even when I am on the road (route 31 to be exact), I don't start getting a usable troop c signal until about 2 miles from the Mercer County border.

Just to clarify a little here....

Don't take the term line of sight litterally. You do not have to nessessarly be able to see the other antenna in order to communicate or receive from it.

800Mhz is still line of site communications. Yes it is high frequency and will penitrate buildings and foilage better than lower frequencies but it is still line of sight. When you travel or are to far over the transmitting antennas horizon or field of view you are out of site of the antenna and out of luck receiving it unless the atmosphere helps you a little.

Hope that makes a little sense of line of sight.
