a simple ?

ok how come i live like 60 miles from raleigh and i can pick up "noises" from raleigh off the viper but no like voices or anything else? i got a stock antenna to...... mainly off of wake med ground dispatch and raleigh fire

What is the make/model of your scanner? If it is not capable of receiving digital all you will hear is "noise" if you're trying to listen to RFD or Wake Med (or any digital talkgroups). You should be able to hear SHP and some other analog talkgroups OK.

I'm surprised you can pick up the Wake Co VIPER site 60 miles away. What control channel are you picking up?
