A traffic accident in Valley Springs led to the arrest of a Stockton man Wednesday afternoon (11/26/08).

Deputy Tom Oldham and Deputy Joe Crabtree responded to a solo vehicle accident at the intersection ofHwy 26 and Olive Orchard Rd. Deputies contacted the driver of the vehicle Gregory Everett II (28) of Stockton. Whle speaking with Everett, deputies noted the strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Deputies detained Everett at that time and requested the Califomia Highway Patrol to conduct a driving under the infuence investigation.

Whle waiting for C.H.P. a witness told deputies they observed Everett dumping the contents of a backpack in a nearby field. Deputies checked the area and located numerous pills some ofwhich were later identified as "Norco" (narcotic pain reliever). During A subsequent search of Everetts vehicle deputies found a "slimjim" (tool used to unlock car doors), a "punch" (spring loaded device used to puncture various types of material) a police scanner and a methamphetamine smoking pipe.

Everett was arrested and booked at the Calaveras County Jail for driving under the infuence, possession of burglary tools, destroy/conceal evidence and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.
