A10 Warthog in Livingston county

Just had one fly over my house about 5 minutes ago. Low and hot. Anyone listening to that? Cant seem to find it on my pro-96 :-(

Keep your eyes open they unually fly in pairs when low. Here where I live I am between Barksdale where there is a Reserve 10 group and what was England Air Base (before it closed) which was the famous "Flying Tigers" a big A10 unit at that time. They were a lot of fun to watch when they were low they would line up on ground targets and each other putting on quite an air show every day.

In my state ( where I meant to post this) I live about an hour and a halfish away (south) from Selfridge air national guard base... but I only see about one maybe two A10's a year fly over my house. They usually fly to the north where I believe they have a range.

The PRO-96 is a terrible radio for Milair even with the expanded freq range for Milair. The Selfridge A-10's were flying at that time, but I'm not sure who was out that way at that time. I was in & out of my car running errands at that time, so I only heard a few transmissions that afternoon. One of them could live out your way or know someone in the area. They did go south this morning, but that was at 15 to 17 thousand feet. DEMON 11 x 2, TEJAS 21 x 4 went south. YALTA 31 x 2 went north to Grayling Range (R-4201). That's their normal call signs for training missions.

I would look for a better radio that covers the Milair band 225.000Mhz to 400.000Mhz AM mode.
BC780XLT is one of the best Milair scanners.
BC785D, & the BC796D are also good Milair scanners.
PRO-97 / PRO-2055 are pretty good for Milair.
PRO-2052 Is also very good for Milair.
PRO-60 was a good Milair handheld also.
I've had 1 or more of these scanners over the years. The only one I don't have right now is the PRO-60. Sold both of them a few years ago.

Thanks for the info! Yea I got the pro-96 to listen to police and fire. The A10 I saw was at about 500 ft flying from west to east. My brother saw it from the other side of town about 5 miles away also heading from west to east. It was pretty cool.

Usually I only see two of them. But when I went to work about 8:30am this morning I seen three of them. They were headed towards Livingston County from here in Macomb County.


I see them all the time but of course I am right in the flight zone. They fly right over my apartment all the time. And of course I am only a few miles from the Base.

Flying Tigers authorized nose art formerly of England AFB, La. Along with a good view of the A 10's famous gun.

BTW Fort Polk (Army) home of JRTC is a short ways west of what is now England Air Park. JRTC operations sometimes (a lot of the time) has it busier with military traffic than it was as an Air Force base. I guess it still is there but a contractor had the most active MI24 group in the world there and it probably still is. I will have to revisit that and get some pics of what I can.

Just think our dear old Uncle Sam is trying to get rid of these slowly. One of if not the best all time close air support bird ever. Survivable bad to the bone and bad on armor.

Thought you guys would appreciate seeing these birds.

I correct my info... There were two A10's I couldn't see the second one but my bro was in a parking lot 5 miles from me and saw it.
