I guess they needed a bigger plane to fit all those first class luxury suites on the Dubai flight, and personal showers (yes showers)

Least emirates is making more rooms for flying non-stop to Dubai

Cold Weather Testing

Amazing flying mahcine. We had it in YFB a couple of times for cold weather testing. Got a tour inside the second time. Some of the luxury berths are quite amazing with built in computers and full beds. It was outfitted with all the different types of accomodations right down to the "jammed in like catttle seats". Something like 12 heads. Galleys are massive. And yes there is a spiral staircase in the back.:D Astounding how quite it is for the size and power even on takeoff roll.

Can you imagine the de-icing process

I have a friend that is expecting to be coming back to Toronto via Dubai around June. I sent him a note yesterday and he could barely contain his excitement.

I seem to be on the landing path (east to west) and the planes seem to make their turn right over my house. I am not too worried about sound levels. I doubt they are any worse than a 25 year old 747.

I've got a high school buddy who flies for emirates airlines...but he "only" flies 777's for them. Amazing aircraft the 380's.

Some of the other aviation websites are anticipating rwy 15/33 or 5/23 to accomodate the A380. Not to mention the thousands of people that WILL gather around the airport i.e Wendys lot. Sooo, if ya want a good spot, get yer tent and sleeping bag and camp out !!!

If you asked me to make a guess I would have said two hours, looks like they can pull it off in 90 mins. at 80% cap. Likely be close to two hours if she were full to the gut.

Emirates and Airbus complete A380 Tests in Dubai

I was on this site an hour ago ! Also found this http://www.airbus.com/store/mm_repository/pdf/att00006423/media_object_file_FAST37_p23_p27.pdf On page 3 they indicate a 90min time. I would say it must be difficult to tell how long it would take, especially at a 'first time arrived' airport. I'm sure they anticipate some gitches.

The landing fees on the A380 alone could pay the bills at YYZ for 3 months :p

Maybe I will one in June when I fly into YYZ.

I know this is an old thread but I thought some airband listeners and Toronto Plane watchers would like to know that the Airbus A380 is currently stuck at Pearson Airport Toronto YYZ and no one can fix it! Something to do with the landing gear.

Yes Emirates. It's the only Super Jumbo A380 that lands here. There's quite a public gathering at the Wendy's on Airport Rd when it fly's in to Pearson. People with lawn chairs, video cameras , scanners and notebooks listing every plane spotted.
