CERT fills many roles including staffing shelters, assisting with traffic, etc. Think of it as the modern day Civil Defense Corps. Little to nothing to do with RACES in most counties.

Yup... I am familiar of the group with the county (as a former volunteer for a couple years), just curious if anyone knew what they were going to use them for.

Looking at the license they have repeaters up (licensed IG). Not sure why they didn't just give them radios on the trunked system.

There was talk before to do that. But over the years there has been a lot of turnover in the office. The county just hired a new Director so there might make more changes since he will most likely be apart of the county for a couple years.

I know the guy that is leading this project. From what I can gather, he's planning on putting up a DMR repeater or two to cover the county. These are specifically for CERT operations. I believe he has a radio cache ready to go as well.

Has anybody monitored the CERT frequencies now that scanners can typically receive DMR? I'm curious about how often the system is used.
