Starting next week, the Naval Academy's two fire stations (currently Station 46) will be split into two stations --

Station 46 will be the south (Annapolis) side station and will house most of the equipment (Quint, Engine, Ambo).

The north (Arnold) side will be known as Station 47.... and will house Engine 473

I used to have a scanning guide for MD, DC and VA (The name escapes me, but it wasn't Police Call) that listed an Anne Arundel Station 49 at the Coast Guard yard in northern AA County. It is the only place I have noticed that station was listed. Did it ever exist or was it like the fictional Benfield station 4 shown on old ADC maps?

From what I have heard the USCG has an Engine there that has a crew during the daytime but at night there is only one firefighter on duty. I am not sure of the station number.

Yes, the CG Yard does have one engine and few small utility type pickup size vehicles. I don't know about the staffing on this engine. I don't think they have too much activity. I guess the primary function is protection of the shipyard and other fire inpections required on this CG facility. I can't recall them event running mutual aide with a local department, but they did attend Fire Expo's parade when it was held a few years ago. I am unsure why AA Co. Fire listed them as Company 49 years ago, since much or most the Yard lies in Baltimore City. Maybe they were used in other ways years ago.

I've had contact with several folks from the Coast Guard FD over the years. They've always had intent of being part of the local area mutual aid response - in fact, they are part of the daily 0815 Mutual Aid "roll call" (radio comms check) on 154.28 every day. I suspect however that this is more to have communication with "incoming" mutual aid (as did occur a few months ago when they had a drydocked ship that had some type of incident - the CG requested a box alarm and AA County pretty much handled the incident with guidance from folks from the CG yard).

I don't recall them ever running off the yard - but they may have many many years ago.

Yes, I know they call the CG on a daily FMARS radio callout at 0815, but the unit being contacted is the Sector which conducts searches in the Bay. I don't get the listen to callout very often, due to starting work at 4:30 AM and don't the Sector answers much when called. Sector Baltimore is a tenet at the CG Yard and only has one building. The CG Yard is the whole facility, but many sub-units are located there.
