AA County police questions

1. Whats a "Pool Car"? Is that a cop car thats not assigned to them?

2. Whats "CID"?

3. Whats "Mobile Crisis" and what do they do? Ive kinda figured on what they do (Console a victim on what happened, talk to victims of domestic violence about solutions, etc)

Ill list the rest as they come to me.

Do they respond priority 1 for a 10-10 (fight)?

Do they respond priority 1 for a 10-50 Can't Advise?

I assume the answer to both is no.

A Pool Car is one that is unassigned. It's from the motor pool.

The answer to both questions is....maybe. It totally depends on the situation as received by the call taker. Two kids wrestling on the grass, the answer would be...no. Forty people beating each other with bats and pipes...yes. And the same thing goes for a 10-50. Circumstances matter for all calls.

What is "public service"? Is that when a cop helps a little ol lady across the street?

It's a telephone call...as in "Call me public service."

How bout "Direct"? Like when they tell an officer to go direct with another officer? Or when an officer responds to a statement by saying 'direct'?

When they respond "direct," they are simply saying they heard the command or statement directly and don't need it repeated. When they are told to "go direct," they are telling the officer to contact whomever directly rather than going through the dispatcher. An officer can't just come up on a freq and start talking to another unit without getting permission from the dispatcher. If they didn't have that rule, the channel would be mass confusion with everyone talking at the same time thinking that the channel was clear. Keep in mind that a unit in the field can't necessarily hear everyone else on the channel but the dispatcher generally can.
