I programmed my Pro-94 to the AAR channels, is that the best way to monitor the railroad?? my scanner is capabale of dual-trunking, can I scan the AAR channels in a Trunking Mode? What is the best way to listen to the railraod? Sometimes I only get half of a conversation or a response to the wrong question while listening, what can be done about this? Any Help????????????????

Dual trunking is usually used for 800 Mhz Public Safety trunking systems. Most railroad systems are not trunked, so if you simply programmed the AAR channels, that is all you need to do. Usually you can hear the dispatcher talking to trains on the road channel through a repeater. This is a stronger signal and is usually the easiest half of the conversation to hear at longer distances. To hear train crews talking to one another or to other trains, you need to be closer to the tracks. These are lower power transmissions and are usually heard best within 1 to 5 miles. I think the best answer is to be closer to the tracks when railfanning. I usually find a public road or parking lot near the tracks where I can safely watch or chase a train without having any problems.
