ABQ Ballon Fiesta - 2011

I haven't used my RS Pro-163 scanner in awhile so I'm a little rusty with remembering when I programmed it. I have these frequencies labled as Balloons. I'm interested in listening to the Balloon Fiesta activities. Does anyone know if these frequencies are correct or if there are any additional ones?

I can tell you that the FRS channels are correct, and that is where you're going to hear the vast majority of balloon pilot/chase crew comms.

Common AIBF Frequencies?

Since the media indicates that both APD and BCSO are supported by state, federal, pueblo, other county, etc. agencies during the Balloon Fiesta, is there a common ground for all participating agencies to comminicate?

Having recently moved to ABQ from Michigan I saw first hand how several levels of law enforcement, fire, medical services, etc. all accessed a central radio system - MPSCS (Michigan Public Safety Communications System). This system is used at the federal, state, county and municipal levels.

For major events like the Super Bowl, hockey playoffs, presidential visits, all assigned units could simply access a series of designated talk groups on the P25 system.

Here it seems that some are VHF, others on UHF, with a multitude of trunked systems, all using different protocols or systems which makes inter-agency communication very difficult to maintain.

New mexico doesn't have a state wide radio system. Apd and Afd have their Tac channels they use for the event and there is a 800MHz simplex freq @ the event that is patched to a VHF freq so they can communicate with the Feds.
