An AC-130U gunship has been troubleshooting a nose gear problem for the last few hours. They will be landing with the main gear extended and nose gear up within the hour at Hurlburt Field, FL (Fort Walton Beach, FL).

Masher-61 = AC-130
This is not their normal callsign since they were on a cross country mission.

Ready to land.

All preparations are complete. The crew is handling it in typical professional manner. Egress plan has been briefed to tower and fire department.

Except for aircraft damage this should be fairly low risk for the crew.

Crew safely on ground. Final post.

The crew is safely on the ground. EMS was released immediately so I suspect that the main gear touching down possibly jarred the nose gear enough to drop and lock.

Hurlburt is APCO 25 digital trunked and I'm not digital equipped so I can't track the on base FD.

They had the same thing happen with a C-5 a number of years ago, that I believe was based at Travis... They decided to fly down to Edwards and then land it on the dry lake. It left a big rut in the dirt, but worked pretty good.
