I'm using the Radio Shack 9 V 300 mA adapter to charge my scanners. I've never had this problem before and I'm not sure if the surge protector I'm plugging it into is at fault (everything else plugged in there is fine) or if the plug is no good. I checked the tip and it is the correct polarity. The plug makes the humming noise it normally does. However, for some odd reason, when I plug it into either my Pro 106 or Pro 97, the scanners won't turn on when plugged in and I'm not sure if it is charging or not. The plug seemed to work fine yesterday and overnight when I used it. I also took the batteries out of my 106 and plugged it in and it still didn't power up. The cord is a little worn and I've had it since January 2008. Any idea what's wrong? Thanks in advance for any and all help. I want to know what the problem is before just going out and buying a new adapter.

I had a similar issue with my Kyocera phone charger. I never thought about unplugging it from the outlet when in use, but I later learned, that it burned up because it was always plugged in.

Sort of reminded me of my youth days and my trainset, the transformer died because it was always plugged in.

So, this might be a similar issue, though you also mentioned that the cord is worn, this too could be related to the problem. Best bet is to replace the defective unit and toss it in the trash, less it starts a fire.

Yeah I have been known to always leave it plugged in when I wasn't using it. That could be a reason there. I also seem to have rolled the cord around the plug in a way that bent the joint to the plug and this could be a problem as well. Definately sounds like I should replace the cord.
