listening via eDispatches.com website yesterday to Acadia Parish fire agencies -

noon test was done yesterday - multiple pager activations showed up at eDispatches.com - all were labeled as "AcadiaFPD3" - there seemed to be 2 receiver sites - 1 was clearer than the other - dispatcher mentioned "backup / redundant" - Jennings and Evangeline was mentioned

"Crowley Fire" was paged out - page was labeled as "Crowley-FD"

"Reechard Fire" was paged out - page was labeled as "Richard-VFD"

"Rayne Fire" was paged out - page was labeled as "Rayne-VFD"

"Lyons Point Fire" was paged out - the page was labeled as "Lyons Point-VFD"

calls ranged from car crash to lift assist to oven fire to transformer fire

-------------

Per Broadcastify - Acadia FPD 3 uses 154.415 - but that is not listed in the RRDB

Broadcastify shows 2 feeds in Acadia Parish - 1 for Acadia FPD and 1 for the countywide fire paging channel iirc

---------------

The State Fire Marshal lists 14 fire departments in Acadia Parish. The Parish website lists 13 fire protections districts. The State Fire Marshall list shows that Eunice FD has FDID numbers in both Acadia Parish and Saint Landry Parish - but it is the same address and same chief and telephone number. The Acadia Evangeline FPD serves areas in 2 counties. Possibly there is a 1 to 1 correspondence between the FD and the FPDs. Maybe not. More research is needed.

--------------

Anyone know how many stations are in FPD 7?

I think we have this figured out now - the citys provide fire service in the citys using city taxes - the county provides fire service outside the citys using fire protection districts (FPD) that have individual millages that are collected by the county - usually the county council / police jury appoints the FPD commissioners - in a couple of cases a city or town will also appoint 1 or more of the 5 commissioners in a FPD

the FPDs then have contracts or arrangements with local FDs to provide service - except that FPD 5 and FPD 11 run their own FDs

Apparently the FPD are numbered as they were organized / created - FPD 1 was created first - FPD 2 was created second - etc

Taking a wild guess here - since Eng 73 is operated by FPD 7 - we are gonna guess that all fire vehicles are numbers as - FPD # + specific unit # - still need more proof of this - just have 1 example so far

List of Numbered FPDs

1 - Richard

2 - Egan

3 - Evangeline

4 - Eunice FD - Acadia District

5 - FPD 5 - Estherwood and Mermaneau areas

6 - Branch

7 - Mire

8 - Lyon Point

9 - Rayne

10 - Church Point

11 - Crowley Service Area 11

List of Unnumbered FPD

Iota FPD

Acadia / Evangeline FPD - covers areas in 2 counties

List of City FDs

Crowley

Eunice - covers areas in 2 counties - plus runs Acadia FPD4 apparently

-------------

next step - list the fire stations that each agency operates - it ranges from 1 to 5 ish

The feed on broadcastify for Acadia parish is the VHF call out for fire service. Essentially a page out if you will for vols to get at there home or where ever. Full time ops are on LWIN. That is why you don't hear the response. From what I have been told, insurance regulations require a page on old vhf or uhf frequencies. That is old fire frequencies around the state are still used for paging even though full fire operations are on LWIN for parishes that have decided to use LWIN full time. Look at the DB for most parishes.

We use parishes not counties. It confuses me also and I have lived in La for 60 years now. Go figure.
Remember, Louisiana is the only state whose legal codes are based on the Napoleonic code. The heavy French influence is ingrained in Louisiana culture and civil and criminal codes. The parishes were originally based on the "Catholic parishes" as France was heavily Catholic at the time it was purchased by the U.S.. The Spanish influence is there also but it is older.
