Ok Guys and Gals is ACARS worth the time to set up?

I have been looking at some realtime ACARS webservers and to be honest I'm not sure what the heck I 'm looking at.

I see this, is this mostly what you see?

24 contacts with this aircraft. First contact: 19/06/2007 15:47 as flight U27005

-= Soundcard No. 1 on Channel 5 [unknown] =-
ACARS mode: 1 Aircraft reg: G-GBTB [B737-436]
Message label: ** Block id: @ Msg no: 0172
Flight id: SHT2943 [Edinburgh, United Kingdom-London/Gatwick, United Kingdom]
Flight distance: appr. 582km Flight time: appr. 0.7 hours

It looks like you see the flight route, flight time, etc. Does it get better? Do theyt really send some good messages with this that would be of intrest? Any sample's of somthing intresting!

Thoughts?

Thanks

Jay

Jay,

ACARS is not all that exciting. ALOT of the messages are automatic, have no human input, are sent to another computer and are used to replace the need for crew members to make VHF radio calls the old fashion way.(ex. out-off/on-in times, ATIS requests, PDC's, in-range reports...ect.)

when the weather gets bad then there is more to them as crews and dispatchers coordinate contingency plans. but thats about it.

any other questions about ACARS, ill do my best to answer, i use it every day at work.
