It appears I accidentally deleted a pre-programmed V scan list ( I probably overwrote it). Is there any way to get it back manually, or can it be done via scanner software and the USB cable. If that is possible, any recomendations on the software / cable would be apprecitated. Thanks.

deleted a V scan list

The scanner is a Pro 106. I'm going out and get the cable, download the PSREdit500 software, and back up everything just in case I screw up again. The V file I lost was for the New Mexico area, and I doubt I'll ever be ought there again. I see that with this software, you can import scan lists from radioreference.com and put them in the scanner. That would be neat, and a alot easier than putting them in by hand..especially the trunked systems !

Don Starr has the factory V-Scanner contents for several of the GRE/Radio Shack scanners at StarrSoft.com.

I looked on the webpage, but didn't see it listed. Is it part of the actual programming software ? Thanks

I don't know whether it is or not but if you get the standard scanner s/w (such as Win500) I'm sure someone could send you the pre-program you need.

I am one who saved off the factory programming before overwriting it in my scanners. And I'd be willing to email or PM the file to you.

But you have to get the software and cables to put it back --- UNLESS you can find someone locally who still has it in their scanner. Then they could xfer the data from their scanner to yours via a cloning cable.

(But you may find that making your own program gives much better results than the preprogam anyway.)

That would be great if you could email it to me. I'm at yahoo with the same screen name. I'm going to get the cable this weekend, and probably will go with PSREdit500. (From looking around the forum, it seems to be the most popular.) If I use that program and your file, will I still be able to restore the v - folder ( VS 8 - AZ,NM,CO,KS,OK ) ? Or do I have to use the WIN500 ?

Anyway, I appreciate you spending the time to help me out on this. Man, scanners have changed a lot since my 10 year old bearcat ! Thanks again.

I can help you with Win500 files. Not PSREdit. (I don't have that program) Somebody else will have to send you the file. Not the same files used between the different program.

Thing is, you need to get the USB cable and the software. And then you need to make them play together. This will probably not be as simple as installing a new driver. You'll have some learning to do. It's not hard but if you haven't used s/w to program the radio yet there is a learning curve. (And there's lots of material on the website to help get you thru it.)

In the lower left-hand quadrant of the page that opens when you follow the above link you will find "Factory V-Scanners" in blue print. It is a link to a link. It is not part of the programming software, but a "backup" of the factory V-Scanner files that DonS, author of WIN500, has saved for our convenience.

You will still need to use WIN500 to restore the V-Folders. These files are stored under a *.p500 format which I believe is incompatible with PSRedit500. The file is zipped which means you will have to extract the contents in order to upload them to the scanner.

WIN500, as with most of the other programming software, offers a 30-day free "test drive." You can use that "test drive" to restore your V-Folders and then you can use PSRedit to do the rest of your programming if you want. You might even decide to stay with WIN500. If you do, you will find an illustrated file here which will guide you in your effort to program your scanner.

The same cable and drivers will allow you to use either programming software.

I would strongly suggest getting a Premium Subscription to RR because it makes programming a snap. You can import your favorite systems/frequencies to your software in the blink of an eye having a Premium Subscription.
