- Optoelectronics Scout

i am new to monitoring and would like to know more .
I owned ICOM R20

and one more maybe silly question isn't frequencies countering is the Scanner job
why do we need one more device ?!

I have an Optoelectronics Scout 40 and its been a fantastic addition to my scanning
and radio hobbies. I mostly use it to find unknown freqs that I never knew where their.
It has 400 memories with hit counters which is a very useful feature. I have been using
it for many years now and its getting a bit tired as its been repaired quite a few times
mostly due to being dropped and banged around. I also use this in my two way radio
profession and its useful for that as well for many reasons.

The ACECO FC1001 is a cheap knockoff that has hardly any features so would be far
less useful.

Do you need these frequency counters? No

Do they make scanning more interesting? Definitely a big yes.

NOTE: Some will say that the close call feature on some scanners makes these
obsolete but I tend to put more of my trust in commercial quality equipment rather than
scanners when it comes to determining if a signal is "on frequency" which scanners
are not made for.

that would depend on YOUR imagination since you will be the user.

blocked - no, its a frequency counter not a receiver.

you have to buy one from Optoelectronics web site or a used one on
ebay.

I would hardly consider the Optoelectronics Scout 40 to be commercial grade equipment. It's a Ham toy. If it were commercial grade or mil spec; it wouldn't break every other time you drop it.

That's a rather arrogant post from you.

Take a look at the specs and models and the price of the optoline equippment and educate yourself
on these so-called hamtoys.

In addition - you were not present each and very time I broke my freq counter
so you have no idea what you are talking about.
