What active repeaters are there from Murfreesboro, northward to I-65 TN/KY line and location? I live in Manchester just wondering. Gonna take the HT with me on an extended antenna and gonna try to make contacts along the way. Thanks in advance,

Check with SERA, the frequency coordinator down there, and see if they have listings and/or maps to help you out. www.sera.org/tn.html and www.sera.org/ky.html are listed in the 2010/2011 ARRL Repeater Directory.

I will probably just program ones in the major cities, but just curious of the active ones in between, mainly north of Murfreesboro. It isn't pressing, as we will only be in TN about 1.5 hrs before crossing into KY. May just hit the MTEARS repeaters though.

Is that the repeater that has the ridiculous courtesy tone that sounds like a guitar? I can barely pick that repeater up here in Huntsville, AL on the higher terrain when mobile, I think it's from either Nashville or Knoxville TN. Every time my radio stops on that frequency and I hear that courtesy tone I cringe. Reminds me how happy I am that my 2 meter "watering hole" is a simple repeater, simple ID, simple courtesy tone, doesn't tell me the time and weather every hour, doesn't sound like a speak-and-spell, and has awesome coverage of the North AL/South TN area. (W4HMC 147.220 + PL 136.5, located atop Monte Sano Mountain in Huntsville, Alabama)

Yes sir! Lol, but I think that they have changed the tone recently. I get on the 147.220 sometimes when in Franklin Co, TN. If I am thinking right, it is the one that identifies, than says Madison County, Alabama at the end. Sometimes get on the 94 as well. The 146.910 is located on Short Mountain SE of Murfreesboro I believe and ran by the Short Mountain repeater club. We have one that gets out good into Alabama as well, and it is 146.820 PL 114.8.

I hope they changed that courtesy tone! It sounded like a 11-meter repeater :)

I think I have the 146.82 machine programmed into my mobile rig, I'll have to give it a try and see if I can reach it.

You're correct on the 147.220 machine. It's only ID is "W4HMC Repeater, Madison County Alabama." Isn't that nice? No time and date announcement, no weather, no long ID. I love it. I'm almost always monitoring that machine in the afternoon and evening hours, if you're ever in range of the machine give me a shout. Would be glad to make an on air QSO with you!

I usually come in around about 10:30P when I go into work, but yes, I will try. I mostly am on the 145.450 repeater PL 127.3 on the mountain on the Grundy/Coffee Co line. It identies in CW as KF4TNP and the tone and that is all. Not as much activity as used to be, but I monitor the 146.820 as well. I will for sure try to raise a QSO with you on the 22 when I get in a good area to be able too.

I mostly work 40 voice. Never really had the desire to chase DX yet. I have made a couple of DX contacts, but only my pure luck.
