I'm travelling to PF soon. Can anyone suggest ACTIVE analog channels to monitor in Sevier/PF? Looks like much is NXDN. I'm interested in FD/EMS. Do they simulcast?
What's a GMRS "travel tone?" I have a GMRS license.
All Sevier County Fire and Rescue Departments are Paged out on 464.225 MHz with a PL of 136.5. Gatlinburg Fire and EMS is also paged out on 453.850 with a PL of 100.0. Sevier County Ambulance Service is paged out on 462.950 MHz with a PL of 127.3. You will not hear them there for Primary comms unless they have issues with NXDN or need to talk to Lifestar. You can also hear the different dispatch centers communicate on Interagency; it is 460.500 with a PL of 100.0. Central E911 Dispatch is on that channel; they answer the 911 calls initially; if it requires LE, they transfer it to those dispatch centers. Central Dispatch only Dispatches Fire and EMS. 100 is Sevier County Sheriff Dispatch, 500 is Gatlinburg Police Dispatch, and 700 is Pigeon Forge Police Dispatch. You can also monitor Seymour Fire on 154.310 with a PL of 103.5. That is the Seymour Fire dispatch channel, and they cover parts of Sevier, Knox, and Blount Counties. Sevier County Central, Blount Comm Center, and Knox Fire (Knox AMR/Rural Metro Dispatch) all communicate with them on that frequency. They also use TACN for secondary communications. Pigeon Forge Police is on TACN for primary communications. All other agencies within Sevier County operate on Land Air Trunk System for Primary Comms, and they are encrypted on that system. They are also encrypted on the conventional NXDN frequencies. NPS operates on VHF P25 with very little encryption, and they were noted using TACN this past weekend.
The GMRS Greentop/Bluff Mountain Repeater in Sevier County uses a tone of 141.3 on 462.675. There is a net every Thursday Night on there at 8:00 PM. Knox also has a GMRS repeater on 462.600; it is linked to 462.725 on Viking Mountain and 462.725 on Oak Ridge. They all three have transmit tone of 141.3. Make sure you leave the receive as CSQ, or else you will not hear the linked repeaters. There is a net Tuesday at 8:30 PM. You should be able to raise people on those. There are a few people that monitor those almost 24/7. There are also two more GMRS repeaters in Sevier County, the Gatlinburg 462.550 MHz repeater and the 462.575 MHz Cades Cove Repeater. There is also another one in Blount County on 462.700 on Chilhowee Mountain. Those three repeaters do not get used as much.
