Can anyone suggest any active analog frequencies in the Portsmouth, Norfolk, VA Beach, Tidewater area? I don’t see any GMRS repeaters in that area. Thank you in advance!

I assume you are already watching 156.8 and other maritime frequencies as well as aviation ones.

Have you searched for railroad frequencies in the roughly 160.5-161.9 mhz range? Plug in 161.19, 161.25 and you should hear plenty. Boat traffic on 156.8, 156.3 should be active. Norfolk International Airport AOPA Airports

That should get you started. Search for other boat traffic from around 156 - 157.5 mhz

NWS 162.55

There's lots of analog stuff to hear in Hampton Roads, like @kc4jgc said it depends on what you want to monitor. On top of what everyone else has suggested, military air is quite active. There's still some fire activity to hear as well, mostly system simulcast/paging. Dominion Power still uses analog UHF and so on. Let us know what you're looking for and we can all help you out further!

Rail - 160.215-161.565
Marine - 156.000-157.425 & possible action from 161.600-162.025
Shipboard handhelds - sometimes, marine band, but frequently 457.525-457.600 & 467.525-467.825
Some military analog at 138-144 & 148-150.8, but pretty sparse & generally low power

Lots to hear on generic low-power business freqs, and the 'test' freqs for cheap Chinese handhelds.
Lots of good vantage points to watch stuff. Waterside, Monitor-Merrimack Overlook, Fort Monroe, Port Norfolk, and the Portside Walk all are great vantage points with stuff to listen to and watch. Norfolk Int'l Airport has an observation area, Willoughby Spit boat ramp provides great view of NAS Norfolk, and Oceana NAS has its own observation lot. Much analog going on at all spots. Also a lot of interference from the Navy's ELMR in the 380-390 range--but that's a big city for you.

Have heard GMRS traffic in downtown Portsmouth that sounded quasi-military like possible a militia group.
