Always look at So.Nevada ham page when I go.
But from Downtown LV. you should hit several repeaters all across the valley.
2 meter and 440.
To answer your question there are several good freqs. to try.
When are you going? Pretty hot this time of year.
We may go out in the fall.

The majority of activity is actually over on GMRS nowadays. 462.626 MHz with the 141.3 travel tone. The SNRC list is really awful. I have assembled a coalition of operators to completely gut the list. Machines are coordinated to people that had their licenses expire almost 20 years ago. There's a machine coordinated to a guy that passed away almost nine years ago. There's a guy who moved out of town a decade ago that took his stuff with him and let the coordinators know he was leaving (I saw the correspondence), and his stuff is still listed.

We're currently working on an exhaustive list with RSSI reports from multiple parts of town. That is still a work in-progress. Anyways, here are your best bets as of today. This does not account for the many closed repeater systems in Vegas (Tri-State, PAPA, SCRN, Cactus, HXO, NARRI, etc.).
  • 145.390 - PL 100.00 Hz - W7IVK in Downtown Henderson on a tower right near Juan's Flaming Fajita and Water Street. Does not transmit PL back.
  • 145.460 - PL 100.00 Hz - KE7ZHN in North Las Vegas at MLK and Cheyenne on City of NLV property. Does not transmit PL back.
    • Not active but good coverage
  • 146.880 - PL 100.00 Hz - WA7HXO on High Potosi. It is part of the intermountain tie.
    • Very active, but not with locals
  • 146.940 - PL 100.00 Hz - K7UGE on top of the Westgate Hotel and Casino (right near convention center)
    • Moderate activity, especially on net nights
  • 445.875 - PL 100 Hz - W7JCA is right near Arizona Charlies
    • Good amount of activity, but not with local traffic
  • 446.875 - PL 114.8 Hz - N7RMK on the side of Sunrise Mountain (not on top)
    • It's nicknamed the Fly Trap
    • Very active in the evenings
  • 447.300 - PL 100.0 Hz - KG7SS on the top of Mountain View Hospital (Cheyenne and 95)
    • Only really active on net nights - Mondays
  • 447.950 - PL 100.0 - K6JSI on Blue Diamond
    • It's the WIN System... need I say more?
  • 448.075 - PL 127.3 - WN9ANF on top of The D Hotel and Casino in downtown
    • Not very active
    • Occasional traffic from local DX club
    • Great coverage
  • 448.325 - PL 107.2/NAC 702 - N4NJJ on Angel Peak (my machine)
    • Great coverage of strip
    • Linked to Sin City 700 box
    • Morning drive activity and late evenings
  • 449.700 - PL 107.2/NAC 702 - N4NJJ on Low Potosi (my machine)
    • Great coverage of strip
    • This is the Sin City 700 ... Google/YouTube it
    • Morning drive activity and late evenings
  • 449.925 - PL 131.8 Hz - W7HEN on Apex (north side of Vegas near speedway on way out of town)
    • Probably the most active ham machine in Vegas
    • Great coverage mostly everywhere

No worries. My machine on Low Potosi covers the airport really well. Both of my machines do great on the strip. Just try to get a westerly facing room. Most of the machine are on the west side of Vegas. If you get an east facing room: Apex (NE), Red Mt. (SE), and Black Mt. (SE) are the only hilltops with ham machines on them. Sunrise is the big mountain you see in the east with two towers visible from town. It's an extremely challenging and trecherous road to traverse. Helicopter seems to be the now preferred method of transport. Obviously, hammys with their maxtracs and ric's and flat packs aren't really doing that.

The mountain range directly north of town has the Gas Peak site, which is Las Vegas Metro and no one else. Helicopter only.

I have driven to middle Potosi for my employer a few times. Not for the faint of heart (late APR to late OCT) and it is snow cat or helo in snow season. Even late April the site is very icy and treacherous.

We stay at the Paris facing west towards red Rock and north towards Mt. Charleston on the 28th floor. 2 windows. Should be no problem on low power.
Smart move. I know it might appear off-topic, but it does help knowing which hill tops are which. Angel Peak is on Mt. Charleston. I have a machine up there. There is a lot of ham stuff there as well as public safety including local, county, state, and federal agencies. The Department of Defense has a massive install up there as does the FAA.

N4NJJ, is that a real tracker action you are sitting at?
No. It's a four-manual Allen. It's alright. There aren't many trackers in Vegas. A few four manual Wicks. The university has a pretty nice von Beckerath.

Ok to give your machine a try? I'll be coming from Temecula in Vegas Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
