I'm seeking details of Hawaii low band channels that are fairly active to program into a scanner as early warning of 6 meter openings i.e. pagers or active voice channels.

For west coast U.S.A. I have quite a bunch of CHP channels programmed along with a couple of pagers, (info on active ones on the west coast would also be appreciated) but would like Hawaii stuff to fill the gap.

At the peak of past sunspot cycles (particularly '89 - '91) low band comms from west coast U.S.A. and inland boomed in here, to the extent that at times PL/CTCSS tones could be heard on some (the higher codes, of course).

I have recordings here of these and also comms from S. Africa; great to listen to as a reminder of the great cycles :)

your best bet is to go to the database and go county by county. Click FCC Licenses at the top. adjust the licenses you wish to display then sort them by low/high frequency by clicking the word "Frequency" in the dark blue over light blue font... here's a quick example of what I located for Hawaii County.

EDIT: also note when taking a look at Maui County. they have no ACTIVE lowband licenses but have several expired ones listed in the fcc database list on here. Mostly mcdonalds and licenses that expired in the 90's and early 00's...

Thanks for this and your trouble. Much appreciated. I've put those two frequencies in a scanner.

I've waded through the FCC DB in the past for various areas, and (like here in OZ) a heap of licenses and allocations come up, but in practice few seemed active enough to use as indicators, comms being rare. Some were very low power, intended for premises and not much further.

Its the ones that carry quite a bit of traffic I'm after. Low band pagers were good indicators - reasonable Tx power and very active.

I did once put a post up on a Hawaii area forum asking for active low band frequencies thinking they'd be in a position to know, but got no response.

Hello, this likely doesn't have much worth, but thought I might reach out anyway. I live in North Carolina in the east. In 2013, cannot recall the time of year, with an attic mounted discone, I received 39.220 KMA801, the time was morning after sunrise Eastern Standard Time. It was the CHP out of Los Angeles. I verified what I was hearing by identifying the Interstate Highway numbers they were calling out. Sorry I did not log the season this occurred, I am just going from memory on the date. Hope this helps a little, Lance

All good info - thanks very much.

I scan a bunch of frequencies in the 39, 42 & 44MHz range (39.220 is one of them) for west coast U.S.A.

Are there still active pagers over there on 35MHz?

Pagers

I can only speak for Florida and North Carolina. I have never received any activity like paging on lo band, none I was able to identify anyway. I cant speak for West Coast.
