Anyone else in the Williamsburg area hearing encrypted traffic this morning on 165.700? If I rembember right this is a government frequency correct?

I heard this morning's traffic as well from my QTH on the eastern shore. While it was 99% encrypted, at least one user was briefly in the clear. It was evidently a surveillance operation. My files tag this channel as the Hampton Rds federal repeater, and it's not active very often. Periodically the FBI runs radio checks in the clear with local civilian and military police organizations.

Keep listening...you'd be surprised how much you'll get from one person not encrypted. One time I was listening to the FBI where all but one radio was encrypted. The one person that wasn't encrypted repeated EVERYTHING from all other agents said, I guess to make sure he understood everything. 
If they are running surveillance, you might want to keep all traffic, communications and names to yourself. I know it can be exciting to listen to and you'll want to tell someone but telling on here might not be the best place. When I found the FBI doing surveillance close to us, I told the wife and actually she'd ask if I've heard anything else and wanted to listen to the recordings. Usually she complains that I have the scanner(s) too loud.

I would be almost confident that the FBI, as well as other government agencys, probably look at this website and forums. I think they most likely know they are dealing with a group of folks who just want to listen
Not to say that it's probably best not to record names, or activity on the channels.
