DATE: 7-3-08
TIME: 12:06
LOCATION: 88th Avenue at I-76. Adams County.

On 7-3-08 at approximately 8:06 A.M. Troopers responded to the eastbound lanes of 88th Avenue at the intersection of the eastbound I-76 exit ramp.

An unknown red truck tractor pulling a cargo box semi trailer approached the traffic light at the top of the off ramp at 88th Avenue. The vehicle made a right hand turn and struck a male pedestrian that was standing on the shoulder of 88th Avenue. The vehicle continued onto eastbound 88th Ave.
and failed to stop and render aid.
The male pedestrian has been identified as a 44 year old male of Denver, CO. The pedestrian sustained critical injuries and was transported by ambulance to Denver Health and was later pronounced dead by an attending medical physician.
The name of the male pedestrian is being with held at this time due to next of kin notification.

The Colorado State Patrol suspects that the vehicle in question may have pulled into the DPI Rocky Mountain property at 8125 E. 88th of Henderson, CO. just minutes after the incident along with a dark colored truck tractor pulling a refer semi cargo box white trailer. The driver of the truck-tractor in question exited the vehicle, walked to the area of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian and inspected the vehicle and then exited the property along with the other vehicle.

A witness to the incident has stated that the driver blew his horn just before striking the pedestrian and then continued eastbound on 88th Avenue without assisting the injured pedestrian, so at this time investigators do believe that the driver was aware of the incident.

A witness at DPI and a video surveillance of the property has indicated that the driver was a male wearing a white t-shirt, black shorts and blue shoes. The driver exited the vehicle and inspected the area of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian. The witness indicated that the driver then entered his vehicle exited the property along with the other truck tractor.

Investigators believe throughout the course of the investigation that the run vehicle is a red 2002-2005 Volvo tractor with a sloped nose. The vehicle has a single smoke stack on the passenger side. The semi trailer is white in color with a refer attachment.

The other vehicle that pulled onto the property is described by surveillance and by the witness as a black colored 1999-2001 Freightliner with a box type front end with a single smoke stack on the drivers side of the vehicle. The semi trailer is a cargo box type trailer that is white in color with a small sleeper and also has a refer attachment.

Anyone with information about these two vehicles is encouraged to contact the Colorado State Patrol at 303-239-4583.
