Location: Westbound I-76 at I-270
On January 4, 2009 at approximately 2:30AM, Colorado state troopers were dispatched to a single vehicle crash at the I-76 and I-270 interchange. Thus far the investigation has revealed that a white, 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer was driving on the interchange from westbound I-76 to westbound I-270 when the vehicle went off the road and struck a guardrail. Both occupants were trapped in the vehicle and required extrication.
Both occupants were transported via ambulance to Denver Health Medical Center. The 22-year-old driver out of Thornton, Colorado sustained moderate to serious injuries. The female passenger was pronounced dead at the hospital and is identified as a 20-year-old from Northglenn, Colorado. Identities are being withheld at this time pending confirmation of the notification of family.
The investigation is ongoing at this time, but it is believed that both alcohol and speed were factors contributing to the crash.
