Pueblo PD has had them for about a year, and I believe that Colorado Springs and EPSO are getting them soon if they don't have them already/

It's a great system, but wow! Welcome to the future! I mean you almost can't do anything these days without some technology evaluating your existence and whether you are the minority report . Next up - small UAVs that scan your retina. (For a great flick this "Independence Day", watch Demolition Man lol)

Edit- Ahh! Reading this thread a link shows this: Automatic number plate recognition - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One of the towns in the Greater Portland, Maine area has them in their cruisers. The ACLU chimed in that it was an invasion of citizens privacy and that the officers might use the information obtained for the wrong reasons.

By their very nature, license plates are public -- they are designed that way. ACLU is wrong!!

Good technology! Good purpose! Good results! Good thing!

Well, it depends. While I don't believe this technology is an invasion of privacy (based on it's use), in Colorado a non-LEO cannot go to DMV and demand to know who a car is registered to.

Not for free, at least. You supposedly can get the registration for $2.00.
Yes and a form spelling out why you want it. Before 9/11, you just needed the $2. Heaven help you if you get a listing on a plate that files a stalking report or disappears or something. That form will be a map to your door.

Yeah, I think that's not so. The idea was to keep wife beaters from stalking their victims, idiots on the highway from taking their road rage to the next level, etc Law was passed a few years ago.

OK. Glad something positive can come from the legislature once in a while.
By the way, greetings from Cabo.
