I would like to add an EXTERNAL s-meter to my 780XLT. I am using a design by Bill Cheek (scanner mod handbook #1 - Pg 112) that tapped the AGC circuit of the scanner. (In that case it was a Pro 2004-2006 scanner)

But really the theory for the 780 should be the same. I just need to find out a good location to tap the AGC from the 780. Can someone help me with this ? It is all hooked up and completed except the connection to the AGC. I don't have a schematic for the 780. (I have never seen one .. does anyone have such a thing ?)

Any help would be appreciated ..

Kevin, I believe the tap you are looking for is clearly marked on the solder side of the 780XLT circuit board. Look for the S-Meter taps. There are 3. NFM, WFM, FM....choose the one you want. use a 1K resistor to make the hookup (and follow Cheek's advice) to avoid loading down the circuit. Good luck.
