I have been running my own website since 2005, streaming quiet a bit of online feeds (at one count, I was hosting 19 scanner feeds..)
My feed links are locked down until a member registers with my website, but once in - any web savvy user can find the link and then link to it from an outside source.
This has bothered me in the past since I use my feeds to generate website traffic - to at least try and break even on the cost of running the website and feeds. Any 'webmaster' will tell you the majority of the users out there will not put up even a $5 donation for something they listen to 24/7. Yes, I have listeners who admit to leaving the feeds online all the time (I even have a 2 hour time-out on the stream - but a simple 'repeat' button works around that )
I was wondering - as a feed provider to RR - (which I did to help the community out since it will pull traffic away from my site) if we can "borrow" or share some of the fancy coding that RR has put to use on their site.
I know we can use the java embedlinks to post our online scanner status on our personal websites. I was wondering if we can get access to embed the archives into our site, and maybe share the code for the random urls that the feeds are assigned to on a daily basis. Like I stated above, I have been battling the hotlink issue since I launched the feeds. I thought about passing AUTH from my website to my Icecast, but as a non-coder it is a bit over my head.
Don't get me wrong - getting a year's worth of Premium Subscription for posting a feed is great.... but I'm shooting 3 scanner streams to RR - not just one.
Thanks again... RR has always been the best national website for scanner info and is always expanding. I remember when it was only for TrunkTracking info
