ADS-B Antenna

Hi All,

I need to get a antenna for the radarbox, I think the watson radar extender looks the goods but i cannot find anything here in Australia.

I was thinking of making my own antenna tuned to 1090mhz, anyone else done this??

or

Anyone else know where I can find this antenna in Au or if they can ship one here?? I want the best range for the people as I will be putting the radarbox online 24/7 for all to see.

I second this recommendation. I get a range of 200NM on mine here in California.

Hi Jas i use the Radar Rama-1090MHZ antenna is 8 metres high coax is 5D-2V thick low loss only comes in 15 metre length and order it from icom australia maximum range im getting is around 250 nautical miles in all directions virtual radar is Kinetic SBS-3 paid $100 australian dollars for the antenna with shipping purchased from Waters & Stanton in the UK..

mtnbiker: littlebit pricey for me, will be over 200 by the time i get it here, i could get a radar extender with pre amp for less.

yeah it does look dearer, I gues its the old the bigger the antenna the better it works thoughts.

But you are getting pretty good range from yours so I think ill do that one, id prefer smaller antenna, doesnt stick out as much!

Now just got to find that coax, ill call icom tomorrow

The coax usually gets ordered from japan takes a few weeks to get unless they got it in stock at icom australia..

ah ok cool, I might try Andrews comms, he has plenty in stock. I am sure any old low loss coax would work.


What did it cost from Icom?

ended up with the radar rama, works to about 220nm or so./

Only problem is i am popping air nav boxes with static..can anyone help me with the best way to ground antenna or a good way to stop the static getting to the box!

Please help!
