• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

looking to potentially work an ads sr1 for a back up on a uhf mcs 2000 (100w version). Not real familiar with moto stuff so learning here. Would it be better to go through the mic or the acc. on my kenwood it was a breez to go through mic. Im looking at wether or not im going to add the 2000 to my collection. Looking at the pinout it looks like both are options but it may be easier to go through the mic. Maybe im missing something here. Correct me if im wrong but 2 prong in back of the 2000 would be audio out + - which would tap right in to the rj 45 audio in to sr1?

sr 1 pinout is as follows:

8 - Power in (typically used with radios that provide a +8v output)
7 - Unused
6 - Audio in (from radio’s speaker output)
5 - Push-to-talk output
4 - Ground
3 - Audio out (to radio’s microphone input)
2 - Ground
1 - Squelch / COR input

On my front mount med power MCS2000 radios, I was able to program through the mike jack, however using the same rib, & cable on my 100 watt trunk mount radio, it didn't work, so I made an acc plug programing cable, & it worked perfectly. Don't know why.

Thanks. One more question. Any idea if the grounding will work. I don't want to fry anything. I found this post referencing a speaker question but addressing audio grounding none the less.

"Problem with this speaker is that one side of it I believe is grounded. You don't want to do that with any of the newer radios that are using a balanced audio output, as you will blow the audio output IC if you ground either side."

Acording to the manufacturer all of the grounds on the sr1 are internally grounded and it doesn't matter which ground on the sr1 is used for audio ground. I guess am I still safe in this respect ?

Finally can I use pin 4 and 8 on the mic for audio out of radio in to sr1?

Anyone? I really do appreciate the advice so far. Tech help where I'm at is scarce and many around won't touch specialty stuff like this. Definitely don't want to damage anything. Thanks for the help so far. Whatever the answer to the ground question is will make or break the project.
