Having both, I would have to suggest the 785D. It has a lot of things that the 895XLT doesn't offer: alpha-tags, PL and DPL, smaller size. My 895XLT has taken a place out in my shed, and I use it when I'm outside working in there.

The 895 is a 300 ch. scanner, while the BC785 is a 1000 channel scanner that can be upgraded to receive digital tx's.

Pay the extra $30 and go for the newer BC785. Add the BC 25i
later if needed.
