I'm looking to buy a newer handheld scanner for the Muncie/Delaware County area and mainly interested in police, fire and ambulance. looking for something fairly easy to program that isn't outrageous in price. can I get some suggestions or advice?

does this scanner run just on batteries or can it be plugged in and run off of being plugged in to an outlet?

The BCD436HP is a handheld scanner. It can be operated on batteries, AC adapter, or USB output. It has 3 AA cells. The BCD536HP is the base/mobile version of the same scanner. It has no batteries. It requires 12vdc from an AC adapter or vehicle. If you can afford it, the SDS100 handheld and SDS200 base/mobile are designed to receive simulcast sites in case your county switches over. The SAFE-T system already employs simulcast in many areas. The free Uniden Sentinel software is used to program all 4 of those scanners.

Muncie doesn't have a simulcast cell. They thought about it originally, got the licenses, but never implemented it. An SDS scanner won't be needed.
